Welcome to the Spring 2023 session of afterschool clubs. Please read this full letter. At the bottom of this page is a listing of the clubs available for Spring 2023. Registration will be exclusively online this semester. Online registration opens on Monday, February 6 at 9am. Last day to register is Sunday, February 12 at 9pm. Due to health guidelines, the number of participants in each club will be strictly limited.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Spring clubs will begin on on Monday, February 27 and end on Friday, June 16. Please note that we will be following all DOE and CDC guidelines.
The cost of each club is $300. Our online registration platform makes registration simple and easy! You can skip the line and register online at your convenience. Online registration opens on Monday, February 6 at 9am via this link. Registration will only be online this semester.
Please note that the last day to register is Sunday February 12 at 9 pm. Registration will not be accepted after this date.
Parents or caretakers should pick up their children promptly at 4:45 in the lobby. It is very important that you be on time! Late pick-up will not be tolerated. Extended day is available from 4:45 to 5:50 PM Monday through Thursday at a cost of $135 per day for the semester. Arriving after 5:50 is not acceptable and will result in a fee of $20/per 15 minutes. This policy will be strictly enforced!
Clubs do not meet on half days, school holidays, or parent-teacher conference days. If you need financial assistance, contact Joyce Borden, Pritsana Kootint-Hadiatmodjo, Rina Ortega, or Maria Velez-Clarke.

Outdoor Play with Jessica Spencer (PreK to 1st grade) Kids love to play! In the Kids at Play club, kids will have the opportunity to do what they love most! On good weather days, kids will participate in organized playground games on our new playground. In rainy weather, kids will partake in choice time play. Prepare to have fun! Jessica Spencer is a paraprofessional that works with PS 94 in our building.
Brighten Up A Day with Jessica Ross (2nd to 4th grade) The goal of the club will be to brighten up a day. We will be making cards and writing notes and letters to sick children in different hospitals. Jessica Ross is a paraprofessional that works with PS 94 in our building.
Guitar with Rew Starr (2nd to 5th grade) Learn how to play your favorite songs on the guitar. Rew’s students practice more than they ever imagined. Her non-traditional casual style offers a fun feel and the minutes fly by. She inspires her students and leaves every lesson inspired as well. Her students are playing their favorite songs quickly and effortlessly in no time. She also teaches songwriting and how music can help you with your daily feelings and emotional state. It has the ability to transform any difficult situation into one of wonder and confidence. Music is the apple of a day…and it is always there for you. Students need to bring their own guitar.
Ping Pong with AYTTO (2nd to 5th grade) This is an opportunity to learn the exciting, dynamic and strategic sport of table tennis from coaches from the American Youth Table Tennis Organization (AYTTO), many of whom are top athletes with international table tennis coaching experience. Coaches are trained to teach table tennis in a fun environment that promotes fitness, agility, self-esteem, strategic thinking, teamwork and fair play. Using our vast amount of table tennis knowledge and our familiarity with the latest developments in physical education, AYTTO takes this high skill sport and breaks it down into easy learning units. The CWS Table Tennis team placed 3rd in the NYC Elementary School Table Tennis Tournament in 2020!
Soccer with Paul (3rd to 5th grade) This is more than just a great soccer program for kids. Paul’s creative approach to coaching will have a positive impact on your child that goes far beyond the soccer field. This highly active soccer class is the perfect way for your child to run off some energy while developing important soccer skills like coordination and self-confidence. In addition, Paul also emphasizes the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork. Paul is our long-time custodian at CWS. He’s also a big soccer fan!
Blocks with Jessica Spencer (PreK to K) Using big blocks, classroom blocks and table blocks, children will explore building and creating structures that they will be able to play in. Come and put your imagination to work! Jessica Spencer is a paraprofessional that works with PS 94 in our building.
Board Games with Andrea (PreK to 2nd grade) In this club, you are invited to have fun learning math through the use of board games. We will learn sequencing of numbers, patterns of moving forward & backward, learning numbers randomly (odd &even numbers) and learning to add and subtract. We will engage in a variety of games, including Monopoly, Trouble, Zingo, Hi Ho Cherry O, Operation and much more. Andrea is a paraprofessional at CWS.

Children learn best by exploring and Choice Time turns playing into a learning opportunity. Students will engage in activities such as, LEGOS, Arts & Crafts, Dance/Movement, Blocks, and Board Games. Taylor is a CWS teacher.
Endangered Animal Activism with Ally (1st to 4th grade) We will use what we learned in the Fall club about endangered animals to now truly become animal activists. The students will pick which animal they would like to learn more about, research it and finally produce some type of activism work (writing letters, starting a petition, protesting, volunteering at a shelter, etc.). Ally is a teacher at CWS.
Art Club with Jeff (2nd to 5th grade) Join the Art Club with the Masters! Before dipping a brush into the paint, young artists will learn a little about an artist and one of their paintings. Then, off they will go, trying to emulate the artist’s style with their own piece of work. Maybe a Monet inspired painting of a soccer game. Or cut outs of New York City Buildings as Matisse would have done it. So join us, get a little messy, and let’s make some art! Jeff is a 1/2 grade teacher at CWS.
Cursive 101 with Leslie (2nd to 5th grade) Learn the basics of cursive hand writing with Leslie on Tuesdays! Learn how to write the alphabet in cursive and then we’ll move onto words. Bring your pencils, pens and paper and get ready to learn this lost writing style! Leslie is a paraprofessional that works at CWS.
Creative Writing with Davon (3rd to 5th grade) Do you enjoy writing your own creative stories? Then join Creative Writing club! Members of Creative Writing club will explore various writing genres, including fiction story writing, poetry, and play writing. By the end of the club, students will publish their original writing in a book(s) to share with family and friends. Davon is a 1/2 teacher at CWS.
Kickball with Jess M. (3rd to 5th grade) The students will walk to a field in the neighborhood where they will play a weekly game. They will learn the basic rules and fundamentals of kickball. They will engage in weekly games and practice positive sportsmanship and teamwork skills. Jess M is a teacher at CWS.
Secrets of Our Building’s Past with Miriam (3rd to 5th grade) Did you know that our school building is 110 years old? Did you know that people even older than your great-grandparents were once children in the very same classrooms we use today? Would you like to learn more about what their lives were like long ago? This is the club for you! We will be looking at very old documents, maps, and images that have been stored in our school basement for many years. Each week you will get to uncover secrets from the past and figure out how to share them with our school community. And we may even get to do some closet archaeology–excavating old artifacts from under our school closet floorboards! Miriam is a teacher at CWS.
Games with Jessica Ross (PreK to K grade) Children will be playing various games and learning through the games. We will be introducing games such as Red Light Green Light, Duck Duck Goose, along with others. Jessica Ross is a paraprofessional that works with PS 94 in our building.

Lego Club with Ally (K to 2nd grade) In Lego Club we will explore building through legos, learn how to build more complex structures and utilize our creativity skills. At the end of the club, the students will become mini architects! Ally is a teacher at CWS.
Art with Jesslyn (K to 2nd grade) We will explore all art materials and discuss different types of art styles and techniques. We will also focus on what primary colors are and how to mix the colors to create more colors. During this time we will also learn and discuss some of the seven elements of art, color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. Jesslyn is a teacher at CWS.
Chess Club for Intermediate/Advanced with Carl (K to 5th grade) Carl is a chess teacher who has been working with children Pre-K through college for over 17 years. Have you already learned the fundamentals and shored up your basic skills by learning strategies of the game? This club will help you hone your skills and provide an opportunity to play in out-of-school tournaments with students from other schools as part of a school team if you would like. It is open to all students that have mastered the fundamentals.
Sports with Luis (3rd to 5th grade) Kids will be taken to the East Side parks to play a variety of sports, including soccer and two handed touch football. Children will be taught fundamentals through drills and scrimmages. Kids should be ready to RUN! Luis is a teacher at CWS.
Coding with Jess M. (3rd to 5th grade) Students will use technology to create digital interactive stories, games, and animations. While working, they will learn important computational concepts and problem-solving strategies. Jess M. is a teacher at CWS.
Crochet with Barbara (4th to 5th grade) Crochet is a needlework that is performed to design basic crocheting designs using yarn. Students will learn how to make scarves by the end of the program. Each student should bring their own crochet needle. Barbara is a paraprofessional that works at CWS.
Basketball with Travis (4th to 5th grade) This highly active class is the perfect way for your child to run off some energy while developing important skills like coordination and self-confidence. In addition, Travis also emphasizes the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork. Travis teaches gym at CWS.
Neighborhood Playground Exploration Club with Jessica M (PreK to 1st grade) We will be spending as much time outside as possible if the weather permits! The group will explore various parks and playgrounds within the community. They will engage in play while working on communication and decision making with peers. Jess M is a teacher at CWS.
Indoor Play with Jessica Spencer (PreK to 1st grade) We will enjoy a variety of activities indoors – building blocks, Jenga, board games, Red Light Green Light, Duck Duck Goose, and more! Jessica Spencer is a paraprofessional that works with PS 94 in our building.
Chess Club for Beginner/Intermediate with Carl (K to 5th grade) Carl is a chess teacher who has been working with children Pre-K through college for over 17 years. Learn the basic rules, how each piece moves and how to use them in a thinking game of chess. Once learned, we will raise our levels by learning strategies of the game. This club is open to all students K – 5 and will emphasize mastering the fundamentals.

Lego Club with Jeff (2nd to 5th grade) Students are presented with challenges to construct LEGO creations with goals. Such as make a LEGO car that can roll down a ramp and go the furthest. Who can make the strongest LEGO car? Who can make the tallest LEGO building? The LEGO “engineers” have to figure out how to make their creations stronger, faster, or whatever the challenge is that day. Students work and play together in small groups to make their LEGO creations. Jeff is a 1/2 grade teacher at CWS.

Bracelet Making with Barbara (PreK to K) Bracelets will be made using pipe cleaners, elastic string and different kinds of beads. Barbara is a paraprofessional that works at CWS.

Film with Chairin (4th to 5th grade) Ready…set… ACTION! Students, get ready to debut as screenwriters AND directors! We will discuss various techniques on how to write and direct a short film, utilizing diverse resources. Once we go through all the steps, from planning to editing, we will do a screening with the rest of our very special CWS community! During this process, students will improve their thinking and writing skills, learn to discern, problem solve, see the bigger picture, improve their confidence and most importantly have fun, while getting to save a special memory to remember one of their last years in elementary school. Materials: School Ipads. If students have their own devices (smartphones or tablets), they are welcome to use them. Chairin is a teacher at CWS.
