Ping Pong with AYTTO (2nd to 5th grade) This is an opportunity to learn the exciting, dynamic and strategic sport of table tennis from coaches from the American Youth Table Tennis Organization (AYTTO), many of whom are top athletes with international table tennis coaching experience. Coaches are trained to teach table tennis in a fun environment that promotes fitness, agility, self-esteem, strategic thinking, teamwork and fair play. Using our vast amount of table tennis knowledge and our familiarity with the latest developments in physical education, AYTTO takes this high skill sport and breaks it down into easy learning units. Dungeons and Dragons with New York Society of Play (2nd to 5th grade) Dungeons and Dragons is the ultimate activity for any child who loves telling a good story. Students come together in small groups and use their creativity, cooperation, and roleplaying skills to create their own heroic character, and guide them through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, and daring rescues under the leadership of their Dungeon Master. Driven by imagination, students have control over shaping their own character’s growth and powers. They’ll meet strange and hilarious supporting characters, take on larger-than-life problems, and learn to work as a team with their peers. Dungeons & Dragons helps kids develop confidence, mathematical literacy, public speaking skills, problem-solving, planning, empathy, and creativity. Students will be encouraged to develop new social tools by engaging other kids in a safe environment with a common goal. They will experiment with a wide variety of approaches to a limitless range of situations and process the outcome in a judgment-free space. To ensure a safe and respectful play atmosphere, we tie all play to our social contract, which promotes values such as safety, respect, and consent!

Ukulele Club with Rew Starr (2nd to 5th grade) Perfectly sized for a child’s hands and extremely portable, it can be enjoyed by kids who already play guitar, those who wish to one day learn guitar, or simply for its own unique sound and style. With only four soft strings, beginner skills on ukulele are simpler than many other stringed instruments, and the group will be playing and singing songs before you know it! Ukulele jam sessions teach kids about music and music theory — beat, harmony, melody, rhythm, and tempo — while developing hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity. Kids get excited as they quickly learn chords, and with only a few chords we can play fun songs and melodies. Students need to bring their own ukulele.

Creative Writing Club with Davon (4th to 5th grade) Do you enjoy writing your own creative stories? Well…then join creative writing club! Kiara is a CWS teacher.

Art Club with Jeff (2nd to 5th grade) Join the Art Club with the Masters! Before dipping a brush into the paint, young artists will learn a little about an artist and one of their paintings. Then, off they will go, trying to emulate the artist’s style with their own piece of work. Maybe a Monet inspired painting of a soccer game. Or cut outs of New York City Buildings as Matisse would have done it. So join us, get a little messy, and let’s make some art!  Jeff is a 1/2 grade teacher at CWS.

Chess Club with Carl (K to 5th grade) Carl is a chess teacher who has been working with children Pre-K through college for over 17 years.  I am pleased that some of my students have gone on to do very well in chess.  I am ecstatic that almost all of my students have found it has helped them do well in life.  There will be general instruction to learn the basic rules/moves of the game and activity-based instruction to help all play stronger; as well as apply ideas for more advanced play.  All should gain and have fun.  I look forward to seeing you and your child Learning through Chess.
