Dear Families,
Happy Friday! This was a cold (and windy!) week but still filled with learning and laughter. After a great Coffee And… this morning hosted by the PTA, Davon’s & Susan and Jeanette’s classes did a wonderful job hosting community meeting, and Jean shared about the hydroponic lab.
Next week begins our two-week all-school celebration honoring the life and values of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose ideals Jean and I used to found CWS 31 years ago! On Thursday, January 16 and 23 at 5:30 pm we will host our annual MLK “Honoring the Dream” Celebration. This will happen over two evenings this year in the CWS auditorium. Classes will sing songs and act out skits that honor the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Teachers will be sending more details home as they are confirmed. On Thursday, January 16 at 5:30pm these classes will perform: Suma, Elyssa & Kimberly, Davon, Ally & Shelby, Miriam, Scott & Louise, and Chairin. On Thursday, January 23 at 5:30pm these classes will perform: Helen, Kiara, Jess, Susan & Jeanette, Jeff, Molly & Crystal, Taylor & Caroline, and Carlos & Ava.
Our school, like the city, is experiencing a high volume of illnesses, including flu, norovirus, COVID, RSV, and whooping cough. If your child experiences coughing, scratchy throat, runny nose, and/or fever please make sure that your child sees a doctor for a diagnosis and treatment. Students with these symptoms should not come to school. Per DOE policy, students may not return to school until it has been at least 24 hours since they had a fever without the use of fever reducing medications – for instance, if they have a fever on Thursday morning they may not return to school on Friday.
Please check the lost and found on the 2nd floor outside of the hydroponics lab – it is overflowing with lost jackets, hats, gloves, water bottles, and other items.
Upcoming Dates:
Stay warm this weekend!
Warmly,
Maria
