Dear Families,
Happy Friday! This has been a great week of learning and growing. Thanks to Molly and Crystal’s class for leading us in morning meeting today. And a big thank you to the grown-up volunteers who came yesterday to help us setup additional rooms in the school building!
As students are preparing for their Honoring the Dream evening performances, they have also been discussing the values of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on which we founded CWS – integrity, service, kindness, equality, and passion. There is no school on Monday, January 16 as we observe MLK’s birthday, and during this time off I encourage you to ask your child(ren) about their class discussions happening this month.
As a reminder our Honoring the Dream celebration will happen over two nights this year.
Thursday, January 19 at 5:30pm – Helen, Elyssa & Kimberly, Jeff, Aliceyn & Ally, Scott, Molly & Crystal, Chairin
Thursday, January 26 at 5:30pm – Suma, Jess & Louise, Susan & Jesslyn, Davon, Kiara & Taylor, Miriam, Jessica & Luis
All visitors to the building, except CWS students, must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to attend. This is a Department of Education policy.
So many of our CWS students are doing incredible things everyday, including learning how to be young activists. This week our CWS fifth graders were represented by a student in Jessica and Luis’s class at Project SoapBoxNYC. She turned her persuasive letter from her writing unit about environmental destruction into a persuasive speech that she gave in front of a large crowd at The New York Historical Society. We are so proud. They also met NYC Schools Chancellor Banks while there!
Also, if you would like your child to have photo retakes and/or sibling photos with Stomping Ground on Friday February 3, you must sign up on this Google Form in advance no later than Friday, January 20.
Warmly,
Maria
