Dear Families,

As a reminder there is no school on Monday, January 20 in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day. 

Happy Friday! Last night’s Honoring the Dream celebration was wonderful. All of the students from Suma’s, Elyssa & Kimberly’s, Davon’s, Ally & Shelby’s, Miriam’s, Scott & Louise’s, and Chairin’s classes did an amazing job with their songs and skits – and then everyone performed again at community meeting this morning so that the other classes could also enjoy their hard work. It is powerful watching our school community come together each year for this special event that honors the life and values of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Part two of Honoring the Dream will be next Thursday, January 23 at 5:30pm. These classes will perform: Helen, Kiara, Jess, Susan & Jeanette, Jeff, Molly & Crystal, Taylor & Caroline, and Carlos & Ava.

Next week is predicted to bring frigid temperatures. We will follow the DOE guidance on inclement weather, and continue to take students outside when deemed safe to do so. Please ensure your child is dressed in layers and has appropriate warm clothing to be outside. 

For students born in 2021 and 2022, PreK and 3K applications are now open! The deadline to apply is February 28, 2025. Please bring Joyce a copy of your CWS first-choice application so she can track it. All current 3K students must apply for PreK even if they want to remain at CWS. 

We have had many sick students out this week with flu, strep, RSV, and other illnesses. If your child experiences coughing, scratchy throat, runny nose, and/or fever please make sure that your child sees a doctor for a diagnosis and treatment. Students with these symptoms should not come to school. Per DOE policy, students may not return to school until it has been at least 24 hours since they had a fever without the use of fever reducing medications – for instance, if they have a fever on Thursday morning they may not return to school on Friday. 

Please check the lost and found on the 2nd floor outside of the hydroponics lab – it is overflowing with lost jackets, hats, gloves, water bottles, and other items.

• Monday, February 24: First day of CWS spring afterschool clubs
