Dear Families,

Happy Friday! It was a great week filled with swimming for our second graders, gardening for our third graders, and a field trip for our fourth graders! Thanks to those grownups who were able to come this morning to chat with District 1 Superintendent Carry Chan. Also, thank you to Jeff’s and Scott’s classes who performed at community meeting.

As a reminder, next Tuesday, October 25 is a half day with noon pickup for all students (no afterschool clubs). Lunch will be served in school.

The following week is family conferences – and on Thursday, November 3 there is a half day with noon pickup (no afterschool clubs). Family conferences are a cherished CWS tradition where the students participate, and often help lead, the conferences with their grownups. This allows the students to showcase their work and be a part of their own goal-setting. Even for our youngest students this is a meaningful experience. Please ensure your child attends their family conference. You can make a separate appointment if you need to chat with your child’s teachers without them present.

Students are beginning their science exploration in our new hydroponic lab on the second floor! Seedlings that classes planted just two weeks ago are already sprouting, and next week will be transferred to the hydroponic growing tables that use nutrient film technique.

There is lost and found in the lobby – so many sweaters and coats without names so we cannot return them. Please look in the lobby to see if your child’s missing belongings are there. And please, label your child’s clothing with their name so that we can return it if it gets left behind.

Since our CWS fiesta was such a success, I am happy to host another community building event next Friday, October 28 – our first CWS Community Movie Night Under the Stars. We’ll be showing Coco out in the schoolyard and encourage you attend with your household. More details are below this post. Hope to see you there!

Warmly,
Maria
