Dear Families,
Thank you to the Kindergarten classes for singing and hosting at community meeting this morning. We were also joined by our Community Education Council (CEC) district 1 representative for him to learn more about our school. As a scheduling note, there is no school next Friday, November 1.
Join me tomorrow for the PTA’s Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 26 at the school from 11:00am – 3:00pm. It will be a fun day of activities and community building!
On Thursday, October 31 we will have costume day and a special community meeting (there is no school on Friday, November 1) – this is the monthly schoolwide dress up day to support the 5th grade trip to Washington, DC. Costumes are not required, but if your child would like to dress in a costume this fall, this is their chance. Costumes may not be scary/violent/bloody, costume masks may not cover the face, and no toy weapons of any kind are allowed. Costumes must also be comfortable to be walked in and sat in all day, or please have your child wear their regular clothes underneath their costume if they choose to remove it. If you would like to support the 5th grade, you can send $2 in cash with your child, however this is not required in order to participate in costume day.
Coming up soon are our first family conferences of the year – please be sure your student attends your conference with you. This is an opportunity to partner with your child and their teacher(s) to set goals for the school year. Teachers are communicating with families with Bloomz to sign up for a specific conference time. Please reach out to your child’s teachers if you have not yet reserved a conference time. To support conferences, Thursday, November 7 will be half-day with 11:30am pickup for all students.
I am delighted to share with you a new event we will be brining to CWS this fall. At 9am on Thursday, November 14 we will host our 1st Annual Ruby Bridges Walk. This year we will join other schools nationwide to commemorate action taken by Ruby Bridges in 1960. The CWS community will begin the walk from the schoolyard at 9:00am and walk to Stuyvesant Park at 17th St and 2nd Ave to hear speakers and sing. We will then walk back to school. We appreciate our families for making this happen!
Upcoming Dates:
Enjoy your weekend!
Warmly,
Maria
