Dear Families,

Thank you for another great week and community meeting this morning! We are excited that students have started their classes with Third Street Music School thanks to support from the PTA. Depending on the grade, our students enjoy music+movement classes, dance, and African drumming classes. In addition to music, we also integrate visual arts into the classroom curriculums. One beloved CWS tradition is the self-portraits our students do at the beginning of each year. These portraits are collected as part of each student’s cumulative school portfolio, and students will receive them with their written works over their time at CWS when they complete fifth grade. I have attached pictures of self-portraits from our PreK and Kindergarten students for you to enjoy.

Daily attendance is important to your child’s success in school. Some students received a letter home in their backpack regarding what the Department of Education defines as “excessive absences” for the first quarter of the school year. We are required to send out these letters. If your child has an excused absence due to illness, while these are part of the total absence count on the letter, they are still excused. For this letter the DOE doesn’t differentiate between types of absences. It is important to send your child to school everyday that they are healthy, even if it is a half-day or before a holiday. The exception to this is if your child is showing symptoms of an illness that could spread to others, please keep them home until they feel better and/or have been cleared by a medical profesional. These medical absences are excused with a note upon their return.

As the weather turns cooler, the DOE has asked us to confirm that all students have access to a device at home in the case of a snow day when instruction would move to remote learning for the day. Please reach out to Parent Coordinator Dorothy Cantwell if you need assistance with a device.

Important Dates:

  • Wednesday, November 22 – Half day 11:30am pickup for all students; no afterschool clubs; lunch will be served (PROSE professional development)
  • Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 – No School

Have a good weekend!

Warmly,
Maria
