Thank you for another wonderful week! Most of you had your family conferences this week, and I hope you enjoyed learning from your child and their teachers what they have been working on and the goals they have set for the next few months.
It was great to see so many grown-ups at community meeting this morning. These weekly all-school gatherings are one of the many ways we build community ties at CWS.
As a reminder there is no school next Tuesday (election day) and next Friday (veterans’ day). And don’t forget to turn your clocks back by one hour before bed on Saturday night.
As we transition CWS to the NY Sun Works science curriculum, our older students have been working in the hydroponic lab. The amount of growth in just a few weeks, both from the students and plants, is wonderful. Over the coming months we will be fully integrating the Sun Works curriculum as our primary science curriculum.
As a health and safety reminder, we are seeing a rise in COVID and flu cases where someone reports a negative rapid test but later tests positive on a lab-based PCR test. If your child is symptomatic please, please have them tested with a PCR. Per DOE policies – even if your child’s COVID test is negative they must wear a mask in school at all times for the next 10 days. It is also strongly suggested that your child wear a mask for 10 days from their last known exposure to a COVID-positive case.
Students should stay home while sick – this is an excused absence. Please do not send your child with symptoms of any illness to school while they are actively sick. This is one of the best ways to prevent spread of illness within our community. If your child has a fever they a required to stay home for 24 hours after their fever ends without the use of medicine. If they have a fever that ends on a Tuesday, and have received a negative COVID test, they cannot come back on Wednesday. They would wait until Thursday and need to wear a medical mask for 10 days since their symptoms started.
