Dear Families,

Happy Friday and Happy December! Today was a wonderful day as our students, teachers, staff, parents, and friends marched to Tompkins Square Park to commemorate World AIDS Day, a tradition our school has honored since it was founded 30 years ago.
Today I have a technology-heavy update, and ask you to please read through this and complete the critical survey regarding your child’s access to a device if there were ever to be a school closure.

Regarding Technology Access At Home:
All families must complete one technology survey for each child at CWS using this link . Please complete this no online survey later than next Tuesday, December 5.

Google Classroom – all of our teachers have setup their Google Classrooms, a requirement from the Department of Education, in case of school closure (such as a snow day).

  • To access via a web browser: classroom.google.com
  • To access via a tablet/other device: download the free Google Classroom app
  • You must use your child’s @nycstudents.net email address to access their Google Classroom
  • You should sign out of all other google accounts open in the browser before logging in or you may get an error, as the system will not see the class added if a parent’s or student’s personal account is the primary account in use on the browser
  • No classroom code is needed as your child’s @nycstudents.net account has already been added to the correct Google Classroom for this year
  • Returning students: You will not be sent new login information, your child’s @nycstudents.net email and password is the same as last year
  • New students: You should have received your child’s @nycstudents.net email and password in a Bloomz message from Jessica Bobbins.
  • Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you need additional assistance. Please see below for a message about our in-school digital access day on December 5, 2023.

Mark your calendars:

  • Friday, December 8 – PTA’s Holiday Bazaar
  • Tuesday, December 12 – Half-day 11:30am pickup for all students; no afterschool clubs
  • Monday, December 25 – Monday, January 1 – No School (School resumes Tuesday, January 2)

As a reminder, the school doors are locked from 1-1:30pm daily during the school safety agent’s break.

I hope you will join us next Friday for the PTA’s Holiday Bazaar. This will be setup in the lobby from 7:30am-4:00pm and you can shop for fun holiday gifts as well as purchase breakfast, lunch (for adults only), and snacks at the All Day Café. This is a great fundraiser and community event and I hope to see you there. For details please contact Pritsana at pritsanak@gmail.com

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Warmly,
Maria

Dear Families,

New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) are dedicated to ensuring that every student can learn uninterrupted, including during disruptions caused by building closures. To accomplish this goal, we want to make sure that our students and staff are prepared for successful remote learning. NYCPS has developed a practice plan to support and improve schools’ readiness in the event a transition to remote learning is necessary. CWS has been selected to participate in the first round of tech readiness activities on December 5, 2023.

What does that mean for your child?

  • Your child will still come to school. In school, there will be at least one period where the teacher will engage the students in a digital activity to ensure that all students understand how to log on to a device and to their digital accounts.
  • In addition to the in-class activity, the teachers will assign a short task for students to complete at home. Please ensure your child completes the digital activity at home.
  • If your child does not have access to either a personal internet-enabled device or a NYCPS-issued device at home, be sure to reach out to Dorothy to request a device.
