Dear Families,

Reminder: There is school on Monday and Tuesday next week. School will be closed from Wednesday, December 24 through January 2. School will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Our students enjoyed lots of field trips, shows, and celebrations this week! We also had a wonderful community meeting this morning hosted by Jeff’s class who performed a wonderful poem. Kiara and Isy’s class also presented at community meeting to welcome the Winter Solstice with a song and movement. A big thank you to all of the parents and caregivers who supported last week’s successful Holiday Bazaar and All Day Cafe!

In January CWS will have its two-week all-school celebration honoring the life and values of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose ideals Jean and I used to found CWS 32 years ago! On Thursday, January 15 and 22 we will host our annual MLK “Honoring the Dream” Celebration. This will happen over two evenings in the CWS auditorium. Classes will sing songs and perform skits that honor the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Teachers will be sending more details home as they are confirmed.

While gathering in school is a welcome joy, unfortunately it can lead to the spread of illnesses. We have had many confirmed cases of Flu A and Strep amongst students these last few weeks – please keep an eye out for symptoms and do not send sick children to school. As a reminder, children who have been ill with a fever must be fever-free for a full 24-hours without the use of medication before they return to school. If your child is ill, please let your child’s teacher know.

It’s cold outside! Our students will still go outside to run and play in the cold, so please ensure your student dresses in layers and wears a warm coat when needed. Please label their coats, sweaters, hats, and gloves with their names!

Please read the end-of-year letter from NYC Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos.
