Dear Families,
Despite the cold weather this week our students were out playing and learning. Thank you to Taylor and Caroline’s 3rd Grade class for sharing their geography learning and 3D maps with us at community meeting today!
An important safety request– recently multiple teachers and students have been injured by some of our students riding their scooters into the crowded sidewalks at arrival and dismissal. Please do not allow your child to ride their scooter on the crowded sidewalk in front of the school, it puts the safety of others at risk! Regarding scooter storage in the yard, scooters have been carelessly thrown in the back area, getting tangled, and most importantly blocking the emergency exit stairs. We need all families to ensure that the scooters are parked neatly and out of the way of the stairs, or we will not be able to accommodate scooter parking going forward. Safety comes first, so please help our community by taking caution when riding and parking scooters.
In terms of fostering community, I would like to clarify that balls and toys from home are not allowed at school and cannot be used during recess and other school activities, and are causing exclusionary behavior. We have enough sports balls available for students to use during recess so please leave yours at home.
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 ventured to Barnes and Noble in Union Square this week for the book fair. Thanks to the PTA for ensuring that all students went home with a new book! You can join me this Sunday, December 8 at Barnes and Noble Union Square at 11am for a book reading with our 3K and PreK teachers Helen, Kiara, and Suma. At 12pm there will be two guest author readings: Jacqueline Nardone will read The Day I Found the Blue Band and Fabienne Doucet will read Love is Still Winning. For in store or online purchases, please use code 12817318 and CWS will receive a portion of your purchase through Sunday, December 8.
Our school community will participate in the World AIDS Day Walk on Friday, December 13 at 9am in place of a traditional community meeting. This is the same day that the PTA will host the Holiday Bazaar & All Day Cafe where you will be able to buy special items from local merchants. Please note that the All Day Cafe is not available for students to purchase lunch, however they may purchase snacks before and after school.
Upcoming Dates:
I hope to see you on Sunday at Barnes and Noble!
Warmly,
Maria
