Dear Families,

It was a long but good week at CWS. Thanks to the guitar club for a great performance at community meeting this morning. I’m also excited to share that next year CWS will have a second 3k classroom added to our school! 
This is a long update but please take a moment to read it thoroughly. 

Afterschool clubs: CWS afterschool clubs end February 14 and the new spring afterschool clubs will begin immediately after midwinter break on February 24. Registration closes at 9pm on Saturday, February 8. You can view all of the club listings on the CWS afterschool clubs page. 

Progress reports: Today progress reports are going home. At CWS we are proud that our teachers take the time to write thorough narrative reports for each student, which go well beyond traditional graded reports. These progress reports are a great tool to see how your child is doing in school, and to set the stage for family conferences, which will happen in March after mid-winter break. Please sign and return the comment sheet in your child’s report envelope.

Illness: Flu is spreading through CWS. Please test and treat your child as needed if they develop flu-like symptoms. Please do not send students who are sick to school. 

Movie Night is Tonight! The movie is Paddington 2 in the auditorium. Movie night is free to attend. Food will be available for purchase to support the PTA. School lobby doors will open at 5:30pm with food for sale and the movie begins at 5:45pm This event is only open to current CWS students and their household family members. An adult 18+ must stay with their child(ren) the entire time. This is not a drop-off event. 

Inclement weather: There may be inclement weather next week, please stay tuned to Bloomz if there are any DOE-adjustments to our school day. There will be remote learning activities if the DOE decides in-person school is not possible for safety reasons.

School Photos: Next Wednesday, February 12 there will be school photo makeups, retakes, and sibling photos from 9-11am. You must register via this link in advance to have your child’s photo taken on the 12th. 

Respect for All Week: Next week is Respect for All week! Each day has a theme:

• Monday: Everyone Counts! Wear your favorite sports team jersey or shirt with a number to show that everyone counts
• Tuesday: Sock it to bullying! Wear a pair of crazy socks to remind you to “sock it” to bullying.
• Wednesday:  Twin/Triplet Day! Help show a sense of community by dressing alike.
• Thursday: Highlight Respect- Wear neon colors to highlight respect.
• Friday: Throw kindness around like confetti. Wear Valentine’s Day colors (red, pink, white).

Upcoming Dates:

• Friday, February 7: Movie Night, doors open at 5:30pm, adults required to stay with children
• Saturday, February 8: Spring afterschool clubs registration closes at 9pm
• February 10-14: Respect for All Week
• Wednesday, February 12: Photo Makeup/Retakes/Sibling Photos from 9-11a, must register online
• Friday, February 14: Special community meeting with Lunar New Year Celebration! Also, last day of CWS fall afterschool clubs
• Monday, February 17-Friday, February 21: No School (Midwinter Break)
• Monday, February 24: First day of CWS spring afterschool clubs
• Friday, February 28: 3K and PreK application deadline
