Dear Families,

What an eventful way to end the week and the first week of April! As you saw in my message earlier today, everyone at CWS was safe during and after the earthquake. Some of our students didn’t even seem to notice it at first. A big thank you to our teachers and staff for making the safety and well-being of our students their top priority. Also, today was a good test of the “alert” feature of Bloomz. This allows us to push out messages via app notifications (and text, for those of you who have put your cell phone number into the Bloomz system). If you didn’t receive my Bloomz alert midday, please ensure you have the app logged in.

Before the earthquake, we shared a wonderful community meeting this morning. Our fourth graders shared some photos and experiences of their week on the farm. Then Carlos and Ashita’s class performed skits based on the Rosa Parks and the Little Rock 9 followed by the song “This is Me.” Well done all!

Next week there is no school on Wednesday, April 10. On Thursday and Friday, third through fifth grade students will take the state English Language Arts test.

Adults should mark their calendars for Wednesday, April 17 for our 30th anniversary of Schoolapalooza from 6-10pm at school. We’ll have a live auction, silent auction, and music from Lisa Lisa! This is an event for ages 21+, and I hope you’ll join us to celebrate 30 years of CWS. Tickets will go on sale next week.

Mark your calendars:

  • Wednesday, April 10 – No School (Eid al-Fitr)
  • Thursday, April 11-Friday, April 12 – State ELA tests (3rd-5th grade only)
  • Wednesday, April 17 – 30Palooza – adult-only evening celebration from 6-10pm
  • Monday, April 22-Tuesday, April 30 – No School (Spring Break/Passover)

Enjoy the nice weather this weekend!

Warmly,
Maria
