Dear Families,

It was an exciting and productive week! Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Transitions Open House last night to see their child’s current and future classrooms. Congrats to our third and fourth graders for finishing their math state tests, and good luck to our fifth graders who will test next week. Our fourth graders also hosted their writing celebrations today. And Gary joined us once again at community meeting to tell us The Caps for Sale story with the help of Susan and Jeanette’s class. Our student government representatives also presented an attendance initiative to encourage and improve attendance at CWS. Wow, what a busy week!

Beginning this Monday, May 13, we will start implementing the DOE’s required Safer Access Door Locking System. Once the school day begins at 8:30 am each day, all school doors including the lobby doors will remain locked at all times. To enter the school building, you will need to ring the video intercom system to the left side of the red doors. You will need to face the camera and identify yourself. After entering the building, you will need to sign in with your photo ID at the school safety desk in the lobby. I realize this shift will take some time to get used to, but I thank you for your patience as we comply with DOE requirements and ensure the safety of our community.

Thank you to the PTA for hosting a class caregiver thank you breakfast and a wonderful teacher appreciation lunch.

Mark your calendars:

  • Friday, May 24 – half-day 11:30am pickup for all students, no clubs (staff development)
  • Monday, May 27 – no school (Memorial Day)
  • Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7 – no school (clerical days for staff)
  • Friday, June 14 – Dress-up day (video game/movie character day)
  • Monday, June 17 – no school (Eid al-Adha)
  • Tuesday, June 18 – Fun Run and All-School Picnic
  • Wednesday, June 19 – no school (Juneteenth)
  • Wednesday, June 26 – last day of school

At the end of teacher appreciation week, I want to say a big thank you to all of our teachers who make CWS so special! And a very happy Mother’s day weekend to all our wonderful moms!

Warmly,
Maria
