Dear Families,

What a great week! I had the pleasure of spending three days with our 5th grade students in Washington, DC. Our students toured Frederick Douglass’s home, the Mall and all its monuments and memorials, Ford’s Theater, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, a dinner theater production of Beauty and the Beast, and an evening boat tour along the Potomac. Thank you to the parents, guardians, teachers, and PTA for making this memorable trip possible. Our third graders hiked in Inwood Hill Park this week and explored its forest, salt marsh, and rock shelters. This morning the Reading Buddies from Taylor and Gabby’s fourth grade class performed with Elyssa and Kimberly’s class on the importance of recycling – bravo!

This Sunday, June 2 the PTA will host the Arts and Science Fair from 11am to 3pm at school. I hope you will join us for this fun day!

There is no school next Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7. While there is no school, on Thursday, June 6, the DOE has requested that all NYC schools try a “stress test” of the online system to try to avoid the system crash that occurred during our remote day in February. This will involve students and teachers all logging in on June 6 at 9am. If you are able to login to Google Classroom using your student’s @nycstudents.net email address we would greatly appreciate it.

Congratulations to the PTA officers and new SLT members elected this morning. The 2024-2025 PTA Executive Board is: President – Simone Mangano, Vice Presidents – Irine Shiyan/Erin McFarland/Sarah Zabrorowski, Secretaries – Claire Gagne/Rina Ortega, and Treasurers – Kyle Hepp/Alex Ochakovsky. The parent/guardian SLT representatives elected this morning are: Pritsana Kootint-Hadiatmodjo, Virginia Millington, and Krista Schafer and they join existing reps Joanna Dolgin and Jacqueline Nardone. We are so grateful for all of the parent and guardian support throughout the year!
