Dear Families,

There is no school on Monday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 19. And in between on Tuesday, June 18 is the Fun Run and School Picnic!

This was a great week! Our 1st and 2nd graders walked the Brooklyn Bridge and our 4th graders visited Ellis Island. Our 5th grade District 1 student council representatives celebrated the end of the year with the other D1 reps. This morning at community meeting we heard great performances from students in guitar club and also from a student who shared their experience with scoliosis.

On Tuesday we will have our yearly school picnic combined with the Fun Run! We will leave the school building at 9am to walk to the East River Park via the 10th Street overpass. We will first go to the John V Lindsay running track (down by 6th Street) for our Fun Run – students can run, walk, skip, or any other way of moving. The Fun Run will happen by class and once everyone is finished we will walk over to the East River Park’s 10th Street Playground and Picnic area for food and water play. We will walk back to school around 2pm.

  • We will have sandwiches and fruit for students, and you are also welcome to send your child with lunch and snacks.
  • Please bring sunscreen, water shoes, and towels as we expect the sprinklers will be on. We also suggest a picnic blanket or extra towel if you have one.
  • No water balloons, water guns, and/or water squirters of any kind will be allowed.

Some grades may have additional reminders and timelines, so please also read Bloomz posts from your child’s teacher about specifics for their class.

Mark your calendars:

  • Monday, June 17 – no school (Eid al-Adha)
  • Tuesday, June 18 – Fun Run and All-School Picnic
  • Wednesday, June 19 – no school (Juneteenth)
  • Friday, June 21 – Moving Up Ceremony for 5th Grade Students and Families (will be live-streamed)
  • Wednesday, June 26 – last day of school

Only 6 days of school to go! Enjoy your long weekend.
