Dear Families,

Happy Friday! These were a great first two days of school! This morning our K-5 students joined us in the auditorium for the first community meeting of the year. It was a fun morning as we learned some school songs, led by Jean. We commemorated 9/11 with our students and connecting students with the 33 year history of CWS. Community meeting is every Friday morning, and caregivers are welcome to join.

This is a long but important update, please read it thoroughly.

I am grateful for your continued patience as we continue to work out the best procedures for arrival and dismissal. You can continue to drop your K-5 child(ren) off in the yard as early as 8am for breakfast and supervised play; adults will not be allowed into the schoolyard at arrival and will need to say their goodbyes at the gate. Thank you in advance for your understanding. 3K and PreK do not have early drop-off and will be dropped off at 8:30am, please look for more specifics from your child’s teacher.

Please return the packet of important forms that Joyce sent home in backpacks – especially critical is the blue emergency contact form so that we can get in touch with you or backup contacts in the event of an emergency. If you have not already sent them in, please send them in on Monday. Even if you complete the form online, we must have a hard copy returned to us for us to have in the office in case of an emergency where technology is difficult. Please also complete and return the housing form.

OMNY Metrocards were distributed to eligible students yesterday. These are valid for the entire school year. Replacements are extremely difficult to get and the wait can be very long for replacements, so please do not lose or damage your child’s metrocard.

Monday, September 14 at 9pm is the last day to register for the fall series of afterschool clubs at CWS. Some clubs are full, but many still have spaces available. There are known issues with trying to register on mobile devices, instead please use a computer or tablet (or set your phone’s chrome browser to view as a desktop site). You can email cwsclubs@gmail.com with any questions or for financial assistance.

FIESTA potluck: We are thrilled to welcome families back with a CWS Fiesta potluck the evening of Monday, September 14 from 4:30-6:30pm. This event is open to all current CWS families. Please RSVP to let us know if you can attend.

Also please mark your calendar for Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 30: The evening is for adults only and will be in your child’s classroom. This will be a time to chat with your child’s teacher to learn more about their plans for the school year. Teachers will be sending home specific information with relevant times for their classrooms.

As a reminder, all internet-enabled personal devices including cell phones and smart watches must be turned into your child’s classroom teacher at the beginning of each day and will be stored in a locked cabinet in the classroom and be given back to your child at the end of the school day.

I am so thankful for all the families returning to CWS as well as our new families helping us make this the special community that we have cultivated over the past 33 years. Together we are going to make this a fantastic school year!
