Dear Families,

Happy Friday! These were a great first two days of school! This morning our K-5 students joined us in the yard for the first community meeting of the year. It was a fun morning as we learned some school songs. Community meeting is every Friday morning, and we will be holding them in the yard so long as weather permits and caregivers are welcome to join along the fence area.

I am grateful for your continued patience as we continue to work out the best procedures for arrival and dismissal. You can continue to drop your child(ren) off in the yard as early as 8am for breakfast and supervised play, however beginning Monday adults will not be allowed into the schoolyard at arrival and will need to say their goodbyes at the gate. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Please return the packet of important forms that Joyce sent home in backpacks yesterday – especially critical is the emergency contact form so that we can get in touch with you or backup contacts in the event of an emergency. If you have not already sent them in, please send them in on Monday.

Next Tuesday, September 12 is the last day to register for the fall series of afterschool clubs at CWS. Some clubs are full, but many still have spaces available. There are known issues with trying to register on mobile devices, instead please use a computer or tablet (or set your phone’s chrome browser to view as desktop site). You can email cwsclubs@gmail.com with any questions or for financial assistance.

FIESTA potluck: We are thrilled to welcome families back with a CWS Fiesta potluck the evening of Thursday, September 14 from 5-7pm. Caregivers will be able to see the school building at this fun evening which is open to the whole family. Look out for the potluck signup form soon.

Also please mark your calendar for Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 27: The evening for adults only and will be in your child’s classroom. This will be a time to chat with your child’s teacher to learn more about their plans for the school year. Exact times will vary by grade and will be shared shortly.

Reminder: There is no school on Monday, September 25 for Yom Kippur.

On Monday we will remember the strength of our city as we commemorate the anniversary of September 11, 2001. I’ve attached a photo of the remembrance art display that previous students have created. I realize all of our students were not yet born on September 11th, but this is an opportunity for us to remind them of the courage, bravery, and community of our New York City community in the midst of tragedy.

I am so thankful for all the families returning to CWS as well as our new families helping us make this the special community that we have cultivated over the past 30 years. Together we are going to make this a fantastic school year!

Warmly,
Maria
