Dear Families,

Happy Friday! I hope you enjoyed the family conferences and hearing from your child(ren) and their teacher(s) how they are doing in school and what goals they have set for learning this year.

As the weather gets chilly, we will still be going outside as much as possible and keeping our classroom windows open for maximum ventilation, so please dress your child in layers so that they stay warm throughout the day.

This Monday, November 8 from 7:00 am-11:00 am there will be a NYC pop-up COVID vaccine clinic for children aged 5 to 11 in the CWS auditorium. This is first-come, first-served clinic open to any families of children in the building and the neighborhood. In a one-time exception to the building policy, the parent/guardian who brings a child for vaccination does not need to show proof of their own vaccine.

Children who receive their first COVID vaccine at the pop-up clinic in our building on Monday will be eligible for the NYC incentive program which includes $100 pre-paid debit card or tickets, for more details you can read this Chalkbeat article and see the incentives here. Incentives will be handled by the city (not CWS) and details will emailed to the parent/guardian after the clinic.

There are two ways to provide consent for your child to be vaccinated at the pop-up site on Monday.

  1. We strongly encourage a parent or legal guardian to be physically with the child when they are vaccinated.
  2. The DOE has just made available a written consent option. The parent/legal guardian can send a fully completed and signed consent form and send the child with a different adult and the completed form.

A copy of the consent form was sent home in backpacks today and will also be available on Monday at the site. Even if you are with your child on site on Monday you will still need to complete a form, so if you do complete this form in advance it will lessen your wait time.

*You must supervise your child until regular teacher pickup at 8:30, we will not be offering any early drop-off or have the capacity to watch children before 8:30am.*

Please rest assured, no child will be vaccinated without express verbal and/or written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

We will be on site on Monday morning to assist, but ultimately this pop-up clinic is being run by the city. We are all doing our best to facilitate this process, but there may be a wait. You will need to wait outside so please dress warmly. Please have patience with everyone as we try to accommodate as many people as possible.

See you Monday!
Warmly,
Maria
