December 3, 2021

Dear Families,

Happy Friday! We started our day with an all-school community meeting, and special thanks to the fifth graders for drumming today. The video can be watched here.

On Wednesday this week our entire school marched to Tompkins Square Park to commemorate World AIDS Day, all those we have lost, and the millions still living with HIV/AIDS.

Many of our students have been able to share their writing through Writing Celebrations. Fourth graders shared their wigwam models and booklets on the Lenni-Lenape people indigenous people last week. Today our fifth graders shared their persuasive pieces on important social issues. Katie Loeb, a member of Councilwoman Carlina Rivera’s office attended and collected some copies of these persuasive letters to share with Councilwoman Rivera. Thank you to her, and great job to all of our students and teachers for wonderful writing celebrations!

I am continually grateful for our students, teachers, staff, and families taking precautions to minimize the spread of COVID-19. I was informed you may be receiving automatic notifications from the DOE situation room regarding cases in the building. Since we have three schools in the building, the information on these may not pertain to our school. I will still reach out to you myself via Bloomz and let you know if there is a positive case in your child’s class.

The PTA’s virtual Holiday Bazaar is open! You can purchase items from local vendors who will offer 10% of sales to the PTA and you get to pick up your items from the school building in December without worrying about shipping hassles! You can look for participating retailers on the Holiday Bazaar website here.

Here are some important dates this month:

  • Monday December 13 – Half Day 12:00 noon dismissal, no afterschool clubs
  • Thursday December 16 – PTA general meeting (Zoom link will be shared in Bloomz in advance of the meeting)
  • Friday December 17 – Dress-up Day (Monochromatic)
  • Friday, December 24 – No school; Winter Break begins [school resumes Monday, January 3]

 Warmly,
Maria
