Dear Families,

Happy Friday! We made it through the first week back! Thank you for your patience, understanding, and kindness as we continue to adjust to having all of our wonderful students back in person.

For the first time in over a year, our ~300 students were able to celebrate our first in-person community meeting in the schoolyard. What a joy to have everyone out and singing together! Thank you to Jean for organizing this important community event and for our 5th graders for leading us in song.

As a reminder, we need every family to send in the paper blue emergency form ASAP. We must have accurate contact information for adults in case of emergency. If you need a new form please ask your teacher. We need the paper copy and cannot access the online information.

E 12th St between Avenues B and C is no longer open to cars during drop-off and pick-up. For the safety of our families and staff, drop-off and pickup via car on E 12th St in front of the school will no longer be possible. Please make alternate arrangements to park nearby and walk your child to school.

Students in grades 1-5 need to consent to random COVID testing. As with last year, it is a tiny qtip placed just inside the front nose by a DOE covid-trained nurse. We had hundreds of these tests last year and all of our students were wonderful. Testing will be random (not everyone will be tested every time) and will occur every few weeks for about 10% of our students. Consents from last year are not valid after September 30, so https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/health-and-wellness/covid-information/covid-19-testing-for-students or ask your teacher for a paper consent form. As always, if your child is feeling ill at all, please seek out a free PCR test from any of the many venues available in the city. Testing is free regardless of insurance status. Do not send children to school with any symptoms of any illness (cough, fever, vomiting, etc.)

CWS afterschool clubs begin on Monday for those who already registered. Please reach out to Joyce or Nicole Doudican with questions.

Thank you for being part of our CWS community!

Warmly,
Maria
