True love blooms for the world to see
Blooms high upon the July tree
Nina Simone July Tree
I hope that you all have settled into Summer a bit. For me, I blinked… and all of a sudden it is mid-July! But please continue to drink that lemonade, splash in those sprinklers, and take advantage of the sweet summer evenings in parks, at the beach, on stoops or backyards. September is still a long way off.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new families to The Children’s Workshop School community and give you some brief updates, because I am sure you have questions.
The school is closed for the summer, but I can be reached at Dcantwell2@schools.nyc.gov
Although the Department of Education policies will most likely change depending on new information and circumstances, right now we know that beginning September 13, 2021, school will be in-person, we expect to have random COVID testing of children and staff, and masks will be required for everyone in the school building.
For now updates will be posted on our website, but later in the summer you will be added to our Bloomz communication app, so watch for an email about that which will explain how to access your account. Bloomz features automatic translation, as does the CWS website so you can set it to your preferred language.
You will be receiving a notice through Bloomz from your child’s teachers in mid to late August which introduces the teachers and outlines first day procedures.
Do watch the website for updates, including arrival dismissal policies and the afterschool club programs, which we hope to have depending on DOE guidelines. You can also revisit the admission page which includes videos, curriculum overview, a virtual look at the classrooms, and more. There are also other great resources all over the website. Enjoy photos of our wonderful events!
Also watch the calendar on our website! New dates will be posted as they are confirmed including the first PTA meeting, first community meeting, orientation and staff introduction, and Curriculum Night. And that’s just in September and October!
I also plan to host several new parent breakfasts and Question & Answer sessions during the first several days of school, weather permitting on Tar Beach, but am waiting for DOE guidelines about building access.
Our school day will be from 8:30 to 2:50.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Cantwell, Parent Coordinator
