Dear Families,
Today is our last day of school for December, and school will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Please also note that on Monday, January 6 there will be a PROSE half-day with 11:30am pickup for all students and there are no afterschool clubs on the 6th.
This morning we came together for our final community meeting of 2024. Thanks to Susan and Jeanette’s class for hosting today. We also heard from the school’s participatory budgeting committee. We spoke about new years’ resolutions and what kind of difference we want to make in 2025– at home, school, community, and in the world. And it was a fun dress up as a family member day!
As we close out 2024 I hope you will join me in celebrating our accomplishments this past year. Winter break is a great time to ask your child more about what they’ve been learning both in and out of the classroom so far. And as we look towards 2025 I invite you to set goals with your child on how they want to show up and set themselves up for success in 2025 and continue our tradition of empathy and curiosity.
In this spirit of community, I encourage you to be mindful and reflect on how you speak about other members of our community including teachers, other students, and parents, especially in situations where your child may overhear. Rumors cause tremendous emotional stress, and I encourage you (and your child) to be an upstander to end conversations that may unintentionally cause emotional distress to our students and families.
As I shared earlier this week, the NYC Department of Health has identified several cases of Pertussis (whooping cough) and flu at CWS, both of which are highly contagious. If your child experiences coughing, scratchy throat, runny nose, and/or fever please make sure that your child sees a doctor for a diagnosis and treatment. Students with these symptoms should not come to school
Upcoming Dates:
Wishing you a restful winter break and wonderful start to the new year!
Warmly,
Maria
